What are some good pastas for diabetics?

03 Sep

My mother is a diabetic, and I actually want to go on a lower carb diet for my training, so I want to know what are some good pastas, breads and things like that, which are low in carbs?
I read it should be lower than 50 on the glycemic index, but I don’t really know. What is good for lower carbs for diabetics?

Insulin pumps for diabetics? ?

02 Sep

Hi,
I have a insulin pump now but I’m looking to get a new one. I have the deltec pump now and I hate having to buy my supplies through them. I have good insuerince but it cost over $400 a month for supplies. I would much rather buy my supplies through the pharmacy. So does any one know of a pump that lets you do that? If not do you know of a good pump that you have used? Why?
Thanks for the help
Julie

Quick question about diabetes diet?

02 Sep

I have pre-exsisting diabetes and I have to do the whole finger stick 5 times a day to make sure my blood sugar level doesn’t exceed 140. I’ve been doing pretty good with eating plenty of fruits and vegetable. My question is if I eat rice and pasta (which I’m not supposed to eat because it supposedly raises my blood sugar level) and my BSL doesn’t exceed 140 will it still affect my unborn child? Will it hurt me even if I’m not exceeding the 140 mark. When I eat them my BSL is mostly around 128 or so.

Thanks in advance

What should I do about family members who don’t understand my diabetes plan and give me a bad time about it?

01 Sep

I am a diabetic and when I was diagnosed 14 years ago my doctor said take a pill and lose weight. So I didn’t know how to control it and six years later I end up with neuropathy (nerve damage) in my hands and feet, then he sent me to classes to learn how to control it. So now I eat the # of carbs they told me to eat and I eat four times a day no less than 4hours after and no more than 5 hours after my last meal and my blood sugars are in good contro. My family lives in a different state and every time I go home to visit they give me a hard time about my schedule and tell me I’m obsessed about it. In fact, this last summer my mother and sister even yelled at me. I get very hurt and don’t know why they don’t want me to contol it so well instead of getting many of the complications possible. Am I being too sensitive or are they being unreasonable by asking me to change my plan.

How many calories are in 8oz of raw milk?

01 Sep

I live on a dairy farm, so the only milk I drink is raw. But, I am also a type 2 diabetic and in need of losing a few pounds. It isn’t something I’m willing to give up, I was just wondering how many calories are in it so that I can incorporate that into my nutrition plan. Thanks!

What are the benefits of a raw food diet? Does it work? If you have experienced this, what are the pros/cons?

01 Sep

Raw foods are supposed to cure type II diabetes naturally in 30 days according to the documentary, “Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 days.” and RDNmovement.com, Who has direct experience with this program. I am considering a raw diet.

She has the genetic one you get as a kid, that requires insulin shots, etc.

Tingling feet and borderline diabetes?

31 Aug

I was recently diagnosed with Type II by 1 doctor, I got a second opinion and I was told that I had borderline diabetes. I have read that there is no such thing as borderline diabetes, just diabetic or not. Well, I have hyperglycemia but not too high as most diabetics with type II who don’t take medications or insulin. I have fasting from 92-107 and 2 hours after meals 128-140. I have less than a year with diabetes, it started when I was pregnant ( I didn’t have it before, I know because they did an A1c test back then and it was normal). I am no longer pregnant but my diabetes remained. I have noticed that lately I have been having tingling in my feet, I would think that this is a symptom of my diabetes, but this early? And with my glucose slightly high only? I thought that diabetic neuropathy happens after many years with diabetes, not this early. Am I wrong? Can you have tingling feet even under these conditions? Thanks a lot.
