I would appreciate it if you would share your experience with me. I have had type 1 diabetes for 21 years. I started out with injections but went on a pump 9 years ago. Financially I can no longer afford pump supplies. I’m fine with going back to injections, just curious to hear from others with related experiences. Thanks.
Has Anyone Out There Gone From An Insulin Pump Back To Injections?

I’ve had my pump for 6 years. I was on it for 2 years, taken off of it for 4 years and I’m now back on it.
Why I was off the pump…that’s a long story. Another time…
I was doing well on my pump the first time around. However, with the introduction of Lantus, my old doctor thought I would do better on that. It can’t be used with the pump. After 4 years of yo-yos, I got sick of it and told my new doctor I wanted back on the pump. He approved it and I’m back on it.
With my insurance, I can afford my supplies. I still use my same pump. It’s 6 years old but it works fine and I see no need to get a new one right now.
I can’t see myself going back on MDIs. I love my pump and the convenience that comes along with it. While I can certainly see your point of view, I also know that diabetes is expensive any way you look at it. There really is no way to inexpensively manage this disease. I know that without insurance, I would be in trouble…pump or not.

My daughter got tired of being attached to the pump about a year ago. She now uses Lantus and Novolog – she uses a pen for the Novolog, giving a shot every time she eats and to correct for high blood sugar. For some people, Lantus is a once a day shot. For us it didn’t last 24 hours so she splits it into two equal doses.
Her A1c is a little higher on shots – it takes more diligence, but I think it can be fine if you’re committed.

My brother is a diabetic, he went from the injections to the pump back to injections. He is doing better with the injections. There may be a home health care agency or the Ada who could give you some type of help with the supplies for the pump. Contact the manufacturer of the company that supplies the pump to see if they offer any type of assistance.

Jax, I am sorry to hear that you can no longer afford pump supplies. I have only had my pump about three years. I hope the time never comes that I have to return to injections. No. I don’t know anyone that has gone back. Good luck.

I am on the pump and any time I take my pump off even for a few hours to take injections my sugars go high high high and my diabetes is not even severe. I would never switch back to injections. Life is os much better with the pump and I feel a thousand times more better.
