I use the quickset. I normally don't bleed (very rare) when I take it off, unless I happened to hit a vessel. If this is the case, the bleeding is the least of the problems because when that happens the BG values are also all over the place.BTW, make sure to join TuDiabetes dot com, if you haven't done it. We're close to 1,000 members from all over the world, with hundreds of pumpers among us.

***I wear a paradigm pump and cut a small hole in the top, inside of both pockets of all the pants I wear. I make it big enough so the round part of the infusion set can fit through. So, I put the pump in my pocket and pull the round tubing part through the hole and attach it to my stomach. The extra just sits in my pocket or hangs inside of my pants. No one ever sees the pump or the tubing. And, no one has ever commented on the holes.***

I just lay my pump down next to me in bed and that's it. I can't tell you how many time I've woken up with the tubing wrapped around my waist. I've only pulled a set out once.

Or you can modify your dresses to be able to wear your pump while wearing a dress, that's what I have done. Make a teeny tiny hold in the waist band to string the tubing through and tie a fabric belt around the waist of the dress to hold the pump. Works for me!

Although you may not be eating anything during those 3 hours, BG will likely go up because you will not have ANY basal insulin in your system whatsoever. If you give yourself shots during those three hours, you need to give yourself exactly as much insulin as the pump would give you for your basal rate. You are not bolusing per se, but rather simulating your basal insulin. Does that make more sense? In any case, always have glucose tablets handy to treat lows when/if they happen.

In that case, perhaps you could give yourself shots every hour until you can reconnect again. What you should make sure is to not be without any insulin for 3 hours: your BG levels could go very high because the only insulin you are working with is fast acting insulin from the pump. When you have T1 and ONLY do shots, the treatment involves the use of long acting (for basal insulin) and fast acting insulin (for boluses) shots. With the pump the basal insulin also comes from fast acting insulin.
