Quick question about diabetes diet?

I have pre-exsisting diabetes and I have to do the whole finger stick 5 times a day to make sure my blood sugar level doesn’t exceed 140. I’ve been doing pretty good with eating plenty of fruits and vegetable. My question is if I eat rice and pasta (which I’m not supposed to eat because it supposedly raises my blood sugar level) and my BSL doesn’t exceed 140 will it still affect my unborn child? Will it hurt me even if I’m not exceeding the 140 mark. When I eat them my BSL is mostly around 128 or so.

What should I do about family members who don’t understand my diabetes plan and give me a bad time about it?

I am a diabetic and when I was diagnosed 14 years ago my doctor said take a pill and lose weight.So I didn’t know how to control it and six years later I end up with neuropathy (nerve damage) in my hands and feet, then he sent me to classes to learn how to control it. So now I eat the # of carbs they told me to eat and I eat four times a day no less than 4hours after and no more than 5 hours after my last meal and my blood sugars are in good contro. My family lives in a different state and every time I go home to visit they give me a hard time about my schedule and tell me I’m obsessed about it. In fact, this last summer my mother and sister even yelled at me. I get very hurt and don’t know why they don’t want me to contol it so well instead of getting many of the complications possible. Am I being too sensitive or are they being unreasonable by asking me to change my plan.

question about type 2 diabetes diet?

I have just been diagnosed with pre type 2 diabetes, and told that I need to lose weight and increase my activity. No problem there, but now I have to rethink everything that I thought was healthy for me. potatoes, certain fruits, etc. I have to bring my lunch to work every day, and I like to pack a mid morning snack. Until now, I was bringing figs and an orange. So much for those high sugar items! I thought yogurt would be a good snack, but upon checking the sugar content, I find that they are loaded with sugar, so now I have to rethink what snacks to pack. Is there such things as sugar free yogurt? What are some diabetes friendly snacks that I can bring? Thanks.

Question about gestational diabetes….diet?

I took my first glucose test and the cut off is 130 and mine was a 146, so they want me to come back in next week and take a 4 hour test..but..they put me on a 3 day diet…Here’s what I don’t understand…

It’s a High Carb diet? It has breads, pastas, potatoes, milk, jelly, cereal, etc on it I can eat as much as I want I just can’t eat what’s not on the list? Why would they want me to up my carbs instead of decrease???

I am about to start taking Metformin for insulin resistance. What should I expect?

I was told that I have insulin resistance by the endocrinologist yesterday. She gave me a prescription for the extended release metformin. What side effects are there that you have experienced if you take it? Also, did it help you lose weight. Im already eating healthy and less, but the weight isnt moving. Will metformin help?

How do you feel about the fact that no cure has been found for diabetes.?

I remember 30 years ago they were predicting a cure within the next 10 years….then Aids came along and diabetes was put on the back burner. Does diabetes affect anyone you know?

My boyfriend has been diagnosed with diabetes, and he is feeling VERY down. He used to enjoy eating A LOT and drinking A LOT (mainly beer). Now, being on a diet (he has to have only 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, and to him these portions are too small), he thinks that life is not worth living, and I am running out of arguments. I have been on the British Diabetes Association, talked to nurses… Has anybody here been through this and would be willing to help?
He is type 2.

question about 2200 calorie diabetic diet?

I am 21 weeks pregnant with my first child and i have been put on this 2200 calorie diabetic diet for high blood sugar during my glucose intolerant test. i have been following it very strictly but everytime i check my blood sugar level it is low…like 75 one time and another 79. is this normal? should i call my doctor? what should i do?

My friend Sam is worried about getting diabetes . Sam is
divorced, and has a ten — year — old boy . His ex — wife has diabetes . I’ve been told that the little boy will defiinitely get diabetes,because his mother has it . Nobody in Sam’s family has diabetes . When I told one fellow that Sam’s worried about getting diabetes, he told Sam “You won’t if you eat right !” . I”ll admit I don”t know much about diabetes . I”ve heard about adult onset diabetes . Will Sam’s son get diabetes because his mother has it ? Can you get diabetes if it doesn’t run in your family ?
