Help with a diagnosis?
On and off for the past two years I have been experiencing spells of nausea, dizziness, light-headedness, stomach pains (often quite sharp quick ones), tiredness, inability to think clearly and general ill feeling.
At the moment I am suffering with a sore throat and I have been under a lot of stress. I suffered recently from mild diarrhea, and the symptoms mentioned above. I do not get this feeling all the time, I often have months between each phase, some days are worse than others.
There is history of IBS in my family and also High blood pressure and late-onset diabetes. I had tests taken on my stools and blood which came back all clear. I used to suffer from mild tonsilitus and I have also found that stress and anxiety worsen my symptoms.
Does anyone know what could be wrong with me and how I can deal with it?
P.S. I have Emetephobia and I become quite worried everytime I feel sick that I will be sick and I think I worry myself too much.
Please, helpful contributions only, I am 15 years old living in UK. (Just incase you need to know)
Do I have a false diabetes diagnosis?
My doctor recently diagnosed me as diabetic based on my fasting blood sugar (142) and a A1c of 6 (mean avg glucose=114). However, I was not told to fast before the “fasting” test (nor did they ask me if I had been fasting)! I had a lot of sugary food a few hours before the test and, more importantly, some sugary breakfast drinks about an hour before. I told my doctor this, but he says the A1C test confirms the diagnosis, which I thought required 2 fasting blood sugar tests.
He’s a new doctor for me, and I’m not crazy about him for various reasons. Should I get a second opinion/new doctor, and, if so, what should I tell the new doctor? Should I tell him about the previous doctor? I don’t want my insurance rates to skyrocket if I don’t really have this disorder.
Much thanks.
Were you aware of risk factors b4 diagnosis with diabetes? and did you take any risk reducing precautions?

TTC On Metformin no PCOS diagnosis – Advice?
I have been TTC for over a year now. I went off BCP October of 2006. I got 2 regular periods then did not get another one until August of 07. Since then I have gotten them sporadically. So I finally got a job and health insurance in December and I went to the Doc and he wanted me to wait 6 months. I told him no and I was referred to a specialist. I was started on Progesertone (which I am still on and go off of tomorrow) Got blood work done and my FSH to LH levels are a 1:6 ratio. He started me on Metformin 500mg twice daily for 3 weeks then 750mg twice daily. He also gave me Clomid to start after I start menstruating after I stop the progesterone.
I am not diabetic nor do I have PCOS – been tested up the wahzoo (literally). He said I was insulin resistant.
I am wondering what are others experiences on these meds. Do you like them/not like them? Side effects good and bad?Have you had success conceiving? OPK – what is a good one? What is insulin resistance really? Thanks 4 listening
Lashes – how inexpensive is the procedure? I am just starting the metformin and clomid, so I am going to give that a try before I move to something else. I am 30 years old and have just started actively TTC over the past year. Thanks for the advice – and I have heard about the runs! YIKES! LOL!
Would a diagnosis of diabetes relate to the pain I feel ?
I have been experiencing pain on the heel of my left foot for a couple of weeks. I think it MAY be circulation related. BUT I am not sure. I notice both feet are sore when I get up in the morning. Then after I walk for awhile it seems to go away. The pain is fairly strong and like a deep soreness on the bottom of my feet.
Discuss the patient’s diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. How would you diagnosis a child with this?
Case Study #1: Diabetes
Hannah is a 10-year-old girl who has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. She is a 4th grade student at Hendricks Elementary School. Prior to her diagnosis, Hannah was very involved in sports and played on the girls volleyball team. Her mother is concerned about how the diagnosis will affect Hannah.
1. Discuss the patient’s diagnosis. Include a definition of the actual disease or condition.
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus once known as “juvenile onset” diabetes or “insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus,” is a chronic disorder of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism caused by inadequate production of insulin by the pancreas or faulty use of insulin by the cells. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert sugar (glucose) into energy. Although type 1 diabetes can develop at any age, it typically appears during childhood or adolescence.
2. Identify the factors which could have caused or lead to the particular disease or condition.
3. Describe the signs and symptoms which are associated with the disease or condition.
4. Discuss the diagnostic testing that is usually performed in order to formally diagnose the particular disease or condition.
5. Identify the appropriate treatment (including therapies, medications, etc) which the patient may be prescribed for his/her particular diagnosis.
6. Discuss potential barriers to therapy which the patient may experience due to their unique situation.
7. Discuss alternative treatments which may also benefit the patient.
8. Describe the typical prognosis for a patient with the disease or condition.
9. Identify patient teaching which would benefit the patient in your case study.

When did gestational diabetes become a diagnosis?
I am trying to find out more about the history of gestational diabetes. I am finding plenty of articles about people having a personal or family history of it, but what I am looking for is when the medical community starting using the phrase “gestational diabetes” rather than only talking about diabetes and pregnancy. I found an article from 1986 in a medical journal that mentions it, but nothing before that.
Does anybody know where there might be more information about this?
