what is the difference between pre diabetes and borderline?

08 Jun

I was told 2 months ago I was pre diabetic as I had a non-fasting glucose test of only 57,then a fasting of 104. Since then I had another fasting level done, last week, it came back 121…that is 17 points higher than 2 months ago. My Doctor was suppose to call me last week, never did. I called 2 more times about getting testing supplies and has not called. This is at a clinic. I was tracking my BS levels for 2 months, they have increased in both morning fasting levels, 116-167, and,in 2 hour post meals they go up in the higher 190’s, at times over 200. I was told by the Doctor before this fasting of 121 that it looked like I was borderline, insulin resistance. He also said that I would need the fasting test in order for insurance to pay for testing supplies. I have an appt. in a month,I think he is waiting until then. I have diabetic symptoms also. I have to say this, one night was very scary for me,I had a small bag of M&M’s about 10pm, I woke up at 12:30am sweaty, feeling sick so I took my BS level, the alarm on meter went of flashing “215″ and the word ketone. I showed him this also. I am wondering if I am a diabetic type 2. My BS levels are so up & down it drives me crazy. I also had very high cholesterol level of 315,lipids high. I am on Zocor for that. Is there any such thing as borderline?? In my opinion you are either diabetic or not, even if it is the beginning of diabetes type 2. I am just so frustrated about this whole thing. I was told about 5 yrs. ago that I was borderline. I am 52 yrs. old (woman).

Thank you for your help & input.
wow! nothing like trying to make someone look like an idiot! which I am not by the way.

thank you for your input.
I was wrong, the BS level that set alarm off that night was “253″,not “215″…my mistake.

Thank you
Thank you Kitty,I learned a lot from your answer.

What’s the difference between type 1and type 2 diabetes ? ?

06 Jun

In type 1, the body\’s unable to produce any insulin. This usually starts in childhood or young adulthood. It\’s treated with diet control and insulin injections.

In type 2, not enough insulin is produced or the insulin that is made by the body doesn\’t work properly. This tends to affect people as they get older, and usually appears after the age of 40.

Anything more you want to add

How many non-diabetics know and understand the difference between Type I and Type II diabetes?

03 Jun

If you think you do, give me a quick one to two sentence explanation. I do, since my son is Type I, but I’m really curious if others do. There is much confusion between the two.
so far none of the first three answers is a good answer. More and more children are being diagnosed with T II and even some adults (late 20s) are diagnosed with T I.

Come on, guys! Give me a better answer.

What’s the difference between hypoglycemia and diabetes type 2?

19 May

I’ve had one doctor tell me that I’m hypoglycemic. Another doctor told me to be careful because my blood-sugar test came back in the pre-diabetic (type 2) range. Are these two really the same or are they two different conditions? I’m so confused! :o (

Why don’t people realize there is an big difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes?

11 May

Not just in the way it develops, but in the way it’s treated. And it’s not just those two. There is type 1, type 2, gestational … and that’s just diabetes MELLITUS! There’s also a diabetes insipidus that doesn’t have anything to do with blood sugar levels. It drives me crazy for someone to ask a diabetes related question and not specify which type. Maybe I’m taking this too seriously, but when I come here I come because I want to help (and to learn) and it’s impossible when people do not include these basic details.

10 points goes to whoever can give the differences between type 1 and type 2, accurately and in detail.

Sorry for the rant, thanks for listening :D
Mr Peachy, I am so disappointed in you. The definition of ‘diabetes’ has nothing to do with blood sugar. You would have known that if you had even read my question to the end.

Actually I don’t know all the 50 states’ capitals anymore. But that doesn’t effect anyone’s health. And if I were in the geography section and 10 people per day came there and said that the capital of California was Las Vegas, you would see me post a similar rant there.
daeve930, absolutely right. I met a young, very thin woman with type 2 who had never been heavy. It does happen, some can’t avoid it. I feel for you.
And Word Nerd … thank you for sympathizing with me. That did make me feel a bit better :o ) Actually I did want you to bore me, but I don’t blame you for not wanting to strain your fingers. This question will be buried in a day and it won’t make a difference.
