What disease can I catch from a chicken coup with various rodent urine and feces?

25 Aug

I have been sick 10 months. At onset I was at a farm with a chicken coup that did not contain active chickens for several years; however.. had various rodents which attributed to the smell/feces/urine smell inside. I have many neurological symptoms, tinnitus, muscle spasms, aches, pains, neuropathy, weird reflexes, headaches. I have had 27 vials of blood taken to test for anything from Diabetes to ANA’s… everything comes back clean. I have also had a lyme titer done, which was negative. Looking for other possible causes. I have had 3 MRI’s; all clean of head and neck. Neck is stiff as well. I am looking for other possible causes. I also slept on a pillow and couch which spelled like cat urine (but I did not speak up, as I didn’t want to be rude) several nights over a few weeks, during this time. – Anything that could help is appreciated.

What medical issues can be indicated by water blisters on the legs from knee to ankle?

19 Aug

My mom is 57-years-old and has been having some ongoing problems that I’m worried might be connected to each other in some way. She is very difficult to talk into seeing a doctor and so I would just like some possible conditions this could be related to so that I can research the specific conditions for her. Her symptoms include a HUGE amount of swelling in her legs, from her knees down to and throughout her feet. There is so much swelling that her legs are pretty red and this swelling has been going on for several months now. She DID go in to see her doctor about the swelling and had examinations done on her heart, kidneys, etc. and the doctor just didn’t have any answers for her. She has type-2 diabetes and doesn’t take care of herself that well, including the fact that she’s quite obese, weighing in at over 300 pounds. She’s already had knee replacement surgery and as such doesn’t get much exercise because she doesn’t feel sturdy on her legs. She has an office job where she sits throughout almost her entire full-time shift. So, her doctor prescribed her some water pills to relieve the edema, and it hasn’t been helping. Now, months after the initial onset of the edema, she is developing water blisters all over her legs, extending from her knees down to her ankles. Other symptoms and problems she has had that may or may not be related are as follows:

*A few dark spots in her peripheral vision
*Pains in her chest, despite physician exam disproving relation to a heart condition
*Recent high-level of weight gain (Due to edema??)
*Loss of feeling in feet and legs, including no pain sensation
*Inflammation of the fat on the left side of her abdomen (which was treated with antibiotics I believe)
*Pain in her lower legs (most likely related to edema)
*An extreme loss of bladder control, to where she doesn’t even usually sense the need for urination, and she has been examined by her doctor for this, who sent her to a neurologist and a urinary specialist. She was told that she needs a urinary sling or something similar, but she only has been given a 20% chance of continuing success unless she loses weight, which she obviously has no ability to work on until her legs are better. This loss of control is so big that “Depends” and the like don’t protect from the leakage.

There seems to be no other problems going on other than this. Her blood sugar usually stays within healthy limits despite an unhealthy diet. Her blood pressure is within healthy limits and her cholesterol levels, etc. weren’t really bad at her last testing. My poor mother just feels so helpless and worthless. She is NOT handling this situation well and feels like there’s nothing that can be done to help her. I would really appreciate some type of information so that I can help her investigate what is going on, that way maybe when I finally do talk her into seeing her doctor again, she can point out ideas of what may be going on… maybe that way she doesn’t walk out of a few more doctor’s appointments as clueless as she walked into them. Please help.

Diabetes sufferers here seems some good news from the BBC UK site think it will work?

Tea could help combat diabetes

Some constituents of tea are thought to combat diabetes
Drinking black tea could help prevent diabetes, according to new findings by scientists at Dundee University.
The researchers said black tea may have the potential to combat type 2 diabetes, the most common form of the disease.

Dr Rena stressed that further research was needed.

“People shouldn’t be rushing to drink masses of black tea thinking it will cure them of diabetes,” he said. “We are still some way from this leading to new treatments or dietary advice.

“Our research into tea compounds is at a preclinical, experimental stage and people with diabetes should continue to take their medicines as directed by their doctor.”

“However, there is definitely something interesting in the way these naturally occurring components of black tea may have a beneficial effect, both in terms of diabetes and our wider health.”

How do I keep from getting type 2 diabetes?

23 Jul

I found out that my dad has been diagnosed as having pre-diabetes. I was told that I may have some of the symptoms that may indicate the same thing. For instance, I get shaky and irritable if I haven’t eaten in a long while. How can I modify my diet so that I won’t get diabetes and have to be on insulin all the rest of my life?

Does Type 1 diabetes automatically disqualify you from being a police officer?

28 Jun

I am 21 years old and I want to apply to local police agencies in Maryland, particularly Prince George’s County and Howard County. I have had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 13 and I have always had excellent control (a1c between 5.0- 6.0). I have done research on whether diabetes will disqualify me from getting a job and the results seem to be mixed. Any information or links references on the topic would be a huge help.

What can keep type 2 diabetes from coming back?

16 Jun

My mom has type 2 diabetes and the doctor said it was resolved after she lost over 100lbs but now she broke her ankle. She can’t really move for 6 to 8 weeks and we live on the second floor in a studio. Is there anything we can do to make sure her diabetes doesn’t come back?

Does having diabetes, type 2 where I take pills, does that disqualify me from selling plasma?

09 Jun

My problem is that my family is currently in dire need of money. Were behind on our power bill, so the only thing I’ve figured that I can do at this point is to sell some plasma. I’ve been applying for work, with no luck for months, but I don’t want to waist any money going to the Plasma center to find out that I don’t qualify. I live an hour and a half from the nearest center, so the cost in gas isn’t worth it if I won’t be able to donate. A second issue for me to find out about is that I’m also in pain management. I receive methadone from my doctor, and I don’t worry about any other drugs, since I don’t take any, or smoke anything, but I can’t imagine that being a diabetic who is on methadone would still be able to sell plasma. My sister is convinced that I would, since it’s just plasma, and not blood. Is this correct? No std’s of any type, good shape, just diabetes and my pain management meds.
