I had an emergency call to my endocrinologist on friday needing a prescription for insulin pump supplies. She wouldn’t fill that prescription but called in lantus and humalog and told me to take shots. The nurse said she would see me monday morning. At that appointment she told me she was dropping me as a client for ‘non compliance’. It wasn’t my fault my pump came unattached in the middle of the night and it wasn’t my fault it take 30+ days to reschedule a missed appointment(work got in the way). She gave me a letter saying she would cover me for 30 days and refer me back to my PCP not another specialist. She wrote me a prescription for more insulin, No pump supplies and no syringes. I now receive a bill for the full amount of the visit and an EOB from my insurance saying she was out of network provider. Basically meaning she dropped my insurance between my last visit and this one. My question is: Are doctor’s required to notify patients they are no longer accepting their insurance prior to their next visit? Is there anything I can do to report this.
Currently appealing with my insurance company, but shouldn’t the fault rest with the doctor?
