I’m doing an assignment about contagious and non-contagious diseases — and one the questions is: How does this problem (diabetes) affect people physically, emotionally and socially? I have answered the physical part, but it would be good if I could answer the other questions.

How long does controlled type II diabetes shorten your life span.?
I am looking for an average because I am trying to figure something out for a family member.
She controls her diabetes pretty good but not perfect. I guess about what an average person who follows the doctors orders controls their diabetes.
Life before nutrition labels?
As the parent of a diabetic, I have found nutrition labels to be a godsend. The mandate to have this information on all packaged/supermarket food is fairly recent. (am ballparking 15 years give or take?) My question only stems from curiousity. As a diabetic, or parent to one, what on earth did you do before nutrition labels were made available?

Can a person with Diabetes live a “normal” adult life?
I’m 17 and I have had Diabetes since I was 9 months old so you think I would know all there is to know about this disease by now but I don’t.
I just want to know if a person can live a normal single life with diabetes. Like partying, consuming alcohol, sex, etc, etc. These are things I’m not so comfortable asking my parents about haha.
Also, are a couple high numbers here and there okay? I’ve grown up knowing never to have high numbers but I mean, it’s inevitable that I’m going to get high numbers sometimes right? But a couple highs isn’t going to cause kidney failure is it? How long do diabetics usually live?
I know I should probably know this already but like I said before, I’ve had this my whole life so I don’t know what it’s like not having to get up at a certain time every morning, needing to eat breakfast everyday, being able to eat whatever I want. I basically have just been taking it day by day, not asking any questions and just doing what I’m supposed to do. Hoping someday someone will figure out a cure or something.
Anyways, any help to these common sense questions would be really appreciated ![]()

My dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Can he still live a full life?
He is 59, and last week he was diagnosed with diabetes. I am very afraid he is going to live a shorter life than normal. But he is going to manage his diabetes very seriously. Will he live a full life if he does?? Thanks.
We have no life insurance and my husband’s health is declining. Is it too late to get a good rate?
He is 55, smokes, has had a heart attack, and has diabetes. Please don’t tell me how he needs to quit smoking etc… I KNOW THAT. It’s his choice NOT to, and I’m trying to figure out what to do before he dies to protect myself. We have health ins. but not life ins. I fear that if he dies, I will lose our home and be destitute. I have physical limitations myself on what I am able to do and can only work a couple of hours a day, which translate into a very limited earning potential.
I know nothing about life insurance. Up until a few months ago, I thought we had it through military retirement. I refuse to lie about his health to get a better rate.
How has diabetes changed your life?
I am actually healthier than I have ever been, I exercise more and eat better. It’s also made me realize how short and precious life is.

Diabetic foot amputation how will my life be?
I have been an insulin dependent diabetic for over 30 years. i am developing foot problems but i cannot/have not been able to afford to see a doctor or a podiatrist let alone get health insurance. I have depended on my daily walks to help control my diabetes but struggle to do this anymore because of callus, infections etc , i just cannot afford to treat my condition anymore (creams/pads/inner soles/proper shoes etc) ,
is it possible that my fear of amputation is excessive that i can still enjoy a life or will everything descend into more problems because of being unable to walk so much therefore leading to continued circulation problems, mentally/emotionally issues dealing with the loss of a limb,
I guess i am trying to prepare my self for the inevitable and am finding this difficult. your Personal experience would be great to reference . I admit that i already suffer from depression but unfortunately cannot afford to see a counselor here in the US (my income is approx 550 per month
thanks for any tips of help
ps i do not qualify for medicare etc
I HAVE TYPE 1 DIABETES not type 2 , daily insulin injections.
If someone sign up for life insurance now, and their health goes bad in 20 years, can the claim be denied?
Lets say I open my life insurance policy now and fill out the application correct and everything truthfully.
20 years from now, my health is crap. Lets say I have diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, so on and so on. Then lets say I die…
Can the life insurance claim be denied because of this?

I’m doing a research paper on Diabetes and life expectancy. At what age did you lose someone to diabetes?
I lost my older sister at 28 to congestive heart failure from diabetic complications. I know that most diabetics have a shorter life expectancy but need real results from a survey for the research paper.
