To prevent Type II diabetes, is it more important to avoid sugar and carbs, or to avoid fat?
I understand that it is important to avoid both sugar/carbs and fat, to prevent insulin resistance (which then leads to Type II diabetes,) but which is more important?
I need more information on Gestational Diabetes?
I did the Glucose test and the results came back as elevated. They are having me do the 3 hour test now. Just wondering what to expect. Also what are some signs/symptoms of gestational diabetes? Does excessive weight gain / water retention have anything to do with it.
Well I saw the Dr today and just over the last 3 weeks I have put on 14 lbs. And I already went and saw a nutritionist prior to this testing because I put on 22 lbs in 2 months. They keep saying that it is normal and not to worry. But I firmly believe that there is something I am doing or a problem, like gestational diabetes, that is causing this excessive weight gain.
Also, I told the Dr that whenever I eat, within 1/2 hour to an hour after I start to get a little bit of a headache, a slight nauseous feeling, full feeling as well, I see flashy spots and feel extremely fatigued. This occurs obviously more so when I eat more carbs, but happens EVERYTIME I eat. I felt the same way when I did the initial glucose test too.

Ineed more information on Diabetes (Dermatological problems of feet and ankles, Top)?
I’ve been diagnosed with Diabetes 2 for about six years now, taking a pill twice a day, and of course I have all the signs and symptoms, to include swollen, painful, feet. My diet is really good and easy to follow. The swelling is only occassional, at the same time there appears to be red dots on the top of both feet all the time. WHAT is that? Respectfully
Ed
Why doesn’t the media tell us more about genetically modified food?
I have seen little in the media other than what supports the profit agenda of the biotech corporations. Is that changing?
See for interest this recent article from Huffington post. Is its presence a sign that perhaps the mainstream media is starting to “notice” the science that contradicts the science of the biotech corporations?
Will we see more coverage of these issues in the media?

Quote for those who don’t follow links:
“Will Obama’s Food Safety Team Finally Regulate the Biggest Food Safety Hazard of Our Time?
If President Obama’s new Food Safety Working Group dedicates all their time and credentials to prevent future food recalls, they will have saved thousands of people–but forsaken millions.
Over the last decade, our radically changing diet has ushered in the explosive growth of food-related ailments, such as allergies, asthma, obesity, diabetes, autism, infertility, gastro-intestinal disorders, and learning disabilities. Of all the changes in our food, the most dangerous transformation was the introduction of genetically modified (GM) crops.
When these gene-spliced concoctions, such as GM soy, corn, canola, and cottonseed, came on the scene in 1996, the proportion of Americans suffering from three or more chronic ailments. After just 9 years, that nearly doubled to 13%. GM foods are the prime suspect.
Government policy at odds with science
Until now, the government has sidestepped the controversy by hiding behind FDA policy, which asserts that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are “substantially equivalent” to natural foods and therefore don’t require any safety studies. But as Obama acknowledged, “many of the laws and regulations governing food safety in America” are outdated.
In truth, the FDA’s GMO policy was not even up-to-date when it was implemented in May 1992. FDA documents made public from a lawsuit revealed that virtually all the agency scientists asked to comment voiced strong warnings that GMOs may cause serious health problems. But the FDA was under orders from the White House to fast track GM foods, and the person in charge of FDA policy was the former attorney of biotech giant Monsanto–and later become their vice president. The scientists and the science were ignored.
Now that animals fed GMOs–in labs and farms around the world–have exhibited symptoms related to the growing list of diseases in the US population, the President’s Food Safety team, including Dr. Margaret Hamburg as FDA Commissioner, must update GMO regulation. A scientifically sound regulation would translate into an immediate ban of current GM crops, and the implementation of rigorous safety testing requirements before any GMO was put back into the food supply. And certainly mandatory labeling, as promised by President Obama during his campaign, must accompany any GM food approval.
Presidents and industry insiders avoid GMOs
The Obama family has wisely opted out of exposing themselves to GM foods by requiring organic–and therefore non-GMO–foods served at the White House. They are even planting an organic garden on the south lawn of the White House, to feature 55 types of vegetables.
The Bush family also had an organic kitchen policy. Laura Bush was “adamant” about it, but kept it all quiet.
Even at Monsanto, many in-the-know employees won’t consume the company’s own GM creations. Back in 1999, the management of the cafeteria at Monsanto’s UK headquarters in High Wycombe, England wrote:
“In response to concern raised by our customers . . . we have decided to remove, as far as possible, genetically modified soy and maize (corn) from all food products served in our restaurant. . . . We have taken the above steps to ensure that you, the customer, can feel confident in the food we serve.”
And one former Monsanto scientist told me that his colleagues, who were safety testing milk from cows injected with the company’s genetically engineered bovine growth hormone, decided to stop drinking milk–unless it was organic.
It’s now time to let us all opt out of this dangerous and failed GM experiment. If Obama’s team is serious about food safety and public health, they must take GMOs off our plates and put them back into the laboratory.

Breast cancer, prostrate cancer, obesity, diabetes, menopause. How much more fun can a 50ish couple have?
The cancer has stopped our sex life. The diabetes means having to take a basketful of expensive drugs, so doing things that cost money is rather out. Oh, and did I mention that our daughter and family are a boomarang family. What is the outlook?
I have symptoms of being hypoglycemic but i have a few more symptoms of being diabetic, what are some syptoms?
sometimes I feel really light headed and tired but other times i can just tell that im feeling cruddy so i’ll drink juice (usually cranberry) and after that i’ll be fine until later. But lately i’ve been drinking a lot of water and it seems like i just can’t quench my thirst, anybody who’s diabetic that wouldn’t mind sharing there symptoms and how they knew they were diabetic would be nice.
I need more information about Gestational Diabetes?
I haven’t been officially diagnosed, but since I’m 21 weeks with twins and high risk, my Dr. has me signed up for a class about it and with a nutritionist on June 2nd. She has had me start taking my blood sugar with a monitor every day. I’m taking it before breakfast, and then 1 hour after breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I’ve been finding mixed information, and so I have a few questions until my class.
1. What is the primary difference between testing at 1 hour or at 2 hours after a meal?
2. How do these numbers look? I’ve only tested for two meals starting last night with a test before dinner – 77mg, and then a test after dinner (2 slices of spinach/pineapple white sauce pizza, a bread stick, a full glass of orange pineapple banana juice, and 8-10 tootsie rolls – I do admit to testing the machine =) 1 hour after dinner it was 177. Then today I tested when I got up, and before breakfast – it was 88. One hour after breakfast of a bowl of Captain Crunch Berries, and a large glass of orange pineapple orange juice, my level was 150 mg.
3. Anything else I should know before I take the class in a few weeks?
Oh – and the meal with the tootsie rolls also had 2 full glasses of cran-raspberry juice.
Dr. didn’t actually give me target ranges – maybe because she scheduled a class for me to take. The log she provided to me has me testing 1 hour after each meal. I was considering doing both just for comparison purposes because I’m not sure what normal really is supposed to be for me.
I don’t know if this has any bearing on it at all, but I’m 21 weeks with twins and have only gained 8 lbs total with the pregnancy (I look 6 months preg.) The babies are both about 15 oz. each and are growing well with no concerns so far.
Creatine the supplement and diabetes… anyone have more information?

My cat has tumor around his heart, and has diabetes; what can you do to make his life better/ more comfortable
My cat has tumor around his heart, and has diabetes; what can you do to make his life better or more comfortable?
Thank you.
If the government would create more businesses what could we have?
I love the public library & I love Barnes & Noble so I want choice. Greedy people don’t want the library (socialist) because it really helps people to have a chance for a better life. I can get movies for free. Use the computer for free if I need to & read the magazines that I don’t want to buy & have clutter up my house. I think government places give us freedom & choice. Why are republicans who are now 21% of the voters,so against government. Aren’t government workers the same workers in corporations. A government worker could make $100,000 a year running an auto home insurance agency. I know someone who is not a government worker who makes half a million dollars a year doing the same work. Wouldn’t our insurance be cheaper if we didn’t pay such outrageous amounts for salary? Why do you think you the consumer doesn’t deserve this?…I get my health care from a place that helps the uninsured. It is so much better than the doctors I used to go to who would write a presciption for me for diabetic meds & hurry on so they could make as much money as possible. I get really great care at the place I go to now. The wait time is less. So the lies about health care are so certain people can continue to make fat paychecks. Our country can not afford to NOT take care of health. If you had a sick child would you rather than child have medical care or school. We pay for school but I know we can learn from many people but we can’t fix a broken bone so medical is more important to me than education. Of course, we don’t need to sacrifice but isn’t it time we took care of our country? Why are people so competitive & jealous of others they don’t want them to have a decent life. When we hold back in care we are holding ourselves back.
Stilton-what does that have to do with now. The libraries in my state of MD of great & yet I hear about how gov. can’t run anything so I use them as an example. I don’t understand why you would call me a fool but I do understand when people name call what they are really doing.
Diabetic testing blood, what is more accurate the finger or arm?
A doctor told me the blood in your arm is not the same as that in your finger. Doesn’t sound right to me.
Which type of Diabetes is more serious; Type 1 or Type 2?
I heard someone say once that one type is far less serious and one type can potentially be life-threatening where as the other is just a hassle with insulin shots ans stuff. Google didn’t help me at all so I hoped someone here knew.
