My 15 year-old son has Type I diabetes and was on the Omni Pod system until my husband’s truss plant closed this past September. We lost our insurance and now my son is really struggling to control his blood sugars with MDI-which didn’t work real well in the first place which is why he was on the Pod. The Pods are $365 for a 20 day supply. Needless to say, with only unemployment comp. for income, we can’t afford this much needed therapy. We tried DSHS, but they won’t contract with the Insulet Company (makers of the Pod [which is an absolute God send of a product]). Does anyone know of a philanthropic organization that would help us get this life saving equipment?
MDI=Multiple Daily Injections. He has gone the “much” less expensive route of needles and his Bgs are all over the place. MDI DOES NOT in any way shape or form perform on par with a pump. I also tend to measure “expense” according to my son’s present and more importantly, future health. You know, kidney failure, blindness, premature death…take care of Bg’s now and you won’t have the “expense” of major system failures and the crippling mental anguish that comes with living this way. Sorry if I come off snotty. My son has been living with this disorder for eight years. We know what works for him and what doesn’t. MDI doesn’t.

Help with insulin pump expenses?
What is the best insulin pump on the market? ?
Our son has used the Disetronic one in the past, but now they are no longer making parts for the ones he has and we thought the Paradigm Mini med one would be nice because of the continuous glucose monitoring system ( we saw that it is the only one that has this). I read a post somewhere that a person said there is alot of Minimed supplies online now ( I guess for sale by individuals) and they thought maybe it is not the best option anymore and that is the reason there are supplies for sale. I personally don’t know What do u think?
Insulin pump, animas 2020 and one touch ping, OmniPod?
I need to get a new pump since I have the cozmore and they have gone out of business. My top three ideas so far are the one touch ping and 2020 made by animas and the OmniPod. But i have questions and if any one owns and wears one of these, a little help is highly appreciated.
For the Omnipod, how big is the thing I wear, compared to a everyday object. Do you like it? Do you find it expensive compared to other company’s monthly for supplies? How does inserting it work, where is the needle?
Some for the other 2 pumps, other then size.
Thanks for the help
Julie

How can you prevent “No Delievery’s” in an insulin pump?
I have gotten so many No Delieveries with my insulin pump since last Friday! I have found that in the past, after I insert the pump, that if I give insulin right after it is inserted, I get a lot more No Delieveries. I have no clue why this happens. We have called the pump company, and they have no explanation for it, besides that my site is bad. I have checked it and it looks fine, so I have no clue.
Could it be related to giving insulin right after you put it in?
We are very low on supplies because of all of the changes we had to do.
What could this be caused by?
Minimed 722 is the kind.
I use the Quickserter to get it in. Minimed did a test with it over the phone and proved that it was functioning correctly.
Medtronic Sensors – when using with an insulin pump?
My husband just got his medtronic insulin pump hooked up on wednesday and we just purchased the sensors and transmitter today. it should arrive on tuesday. My question is how long can you leave one sensor in for? I heard that you can do up to 3 weeks with one? is this just a myth? they are very expensive and would like them to last for more then the 3 days they are suppose to be in? any thoughts knowledge would be greatly appreciated. and any tips on the 722 medtronic pump will also help – like cheap places to buy supplies etc. I live in Ont.
Type 1 Diabetic w/ Insulin Pump – Airport ?s?
Hello there. I’m a Type 1 Diabetic with an insulin pump. In a few days, my husband and I will be going on vacation and it will be the first time either of us is on a plane.
I’ve looked at TSA’s website as well as our airlines to see various policies concerning my supplies and medication, but I was just wondering if anyone here who has experience would be kind enough to lend me any advice they might have. We intend to arrive extra early to the airport and ask security to visually check my pump, etc.
Thanks for any and all advice/help. We greatly appreciate it.
Have you ever had a problem getting “pump” supplies from Medtronic?

Insulin Pump Questions
I am 15 years old and I just got out of the hospital and found out that I have diabetes but we arent sure what type yet since that takes a while to test and find out. I am currently taking 40 units of Lantus and taking Novolog before breakfast, lunch, and dinner and before my snacks. I was wandering how long i have to wait to be able to get an insulin pump. I know that it will be at least 6 months because they want me to know how to give myself shots in case something happened to my pump. I was also wandering how much would an insulin pump cost. I believe my family uses Edgepark to get our diabetes supplies. Thanks for your answers.
Has anyone ever returned their insulin pump to a company for credit?
I have switched insulin pumps, and I would like to get rid of the old one. I was told the only way to do it legally was to return it to the company that supplied it to you for a credit. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Would you reccomend the insulin pump for me?
I just got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 5 months ago and my doctors tell me I am doing great. At my last doctors appt. my A1C was 5.5…. I am on insulin injections 4 times a day. I would love to get on the insulin pump. What are the benefits over injections? I would really appriciate your input! I am 16 by the way.
What can happen if you use your insulin pump before the training class?
I know this is a lot to read, but I would be extremely grateful if somebody could answer this. I just had to get a new insulin pump because my old pump company went out of business and it was near to impossible to get pump supplies. I never got any, so we switched. I was on my last pump site when i got my pump. I really had no choice but to figure my own pump out and use it considering i get sick if I’m off the pump (and just taking regular shots). The next day I found a letter in the mail that want me to sign it stating I would not activate the pump before the training class. Whats the worst that can happen? I’m worried my insurance company won’t pay for it? Is that possible. And the fact that i couldn’t get pump supplies was the only reason I activated the pump, if I wouldn’t have been on my last site, it wouldn’t have been an issue.
I got a cozmo insulin pump in march 2007 and I was thinking about getting a continuous glucose monitor.?
The problem is that I don’t want to carry two things in my pocket at once, as with the cozmo and freestyle navigator. The cozmo in itself is enough for me! The only option that has cgm and insulin pump in one is paradigm. Do you think insurance would cover all of this even though I just got a cozmo a little over a year ago?
