I am about to start taking Metformin for insulin resistance. What should I expect?
I was told that I have insulin resistance by the endocrinologist yesterday. She gave me a prescription for the extended release metformin. What side effects are there that you have experienced if you take it? Also, did it help you lose weight. Im already eating healthy and less, but the weight isnt moving. Will metformin help?
Insulin resistance and a vegan/vegetarian diet?
I heard that a vegan/vegetarian diet could help improve insulin resistance, but it seems like that would probably promote a high carbohydrate diet. A high carbohydrate diet aggravates my insulin resistance and makes me gain weight rapidly. I’m interested in becoming vegetarian, but I don’t want to gain weight.
Does anyone know anything about this or could anyone provide me with links so I could gather more information about it?
How do you get rid of the “rash” insulin resistance gives you?
Diabetes is a disease that runs through my family and i’ve recently discovered i have insulin resistance, which causes a “rash” on the back of my neck and underarms. I’ve lost some weight and been watching my eating, but it doesn’t seem to be helping. Is there a better solution to rubbing my skin raw to try to get rid of it?

Which diet is best for people with PCOS or insulin resistance?
People say that low-carb diets are good, but I’m not the best low-carb dieter. Also, low-carb diets don’t seem very healthy to me, they are often high in saturated fats and you don’t get enough nutrients. But they also say Low glycemic index diets are good, and I can easily go one one of those. I want to lose between 10 and 15 pounds. Because I have insulin resistance it’s hard to lose and maintian weight.
What are the proper terms for getting blood work done to check for insulin resistance?
I feel like I have it but my Dr. said that I don’t based on my lab results. Glucose serum and C-Peptide were checked. I was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance about 8 years ago, and have all the same symptoms. I stopped going to my endocrinologist b/c I didn’t have insurance at the time and now I do. The Dr. that checked me recently for it is not a specialist. Could her telling me that everything came back normal be false?
How to get off a weight loss plateau with insulin resistance?
I am on metformin for insulin resistance and have PCOS. I was losing weight steadily for 6 months, and have since hit a one month plateau of no loss (and no gain). I tried increasing vegetables and reducing sugar even more, as well as keeping up with exercise, but it seems to keep me the same and not lose.
Any ideas for coming off the plateau? The doctor recommended coming off metformin for 2 weeks and then restarting. Does that work? Any other ideas?

Product Description
A cardiologist’s revolutionary weight-loss plan that allows dieters to enjoy good carbs while still losing weight The glycemic index has been the basis of many popular diets. But it doesn’t take into account the serving sizes people actually eat and eliminates too many foods for dieters to stick with it. Now Dr. Robert Thompson’s breakthrough program uses the glycemic load–the glycemic index adjusted for serving size–to take the GI a step forward. The glycemic load is a more accurate and effective tool in controlling weight and insulin resistance, allowing dieters to eat more foods while still burning fat, cutting cravings, and speeding up their metabolism. How much weight can I lose in 11 weeks with Insulin Resistance?
I’m 5ft 9in and around 230lbs with most of my weight around my midsection due to my insulin resistance.
I want to get to around 200 or size 14, I’m size 16 top around 18/20 bottom. And I’m not sure if I’m setting my sights too high.
How can someone who has been diagnosed with insulin resistance lose weight without taking medications?
Need to lose weight, but not taking any medications for the insulin resistance. I will start walking again and monitoring my food intake (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) but what else can I do to lose the weight. Currently I am not a diabetic. From my understanding it supposely very hard for someone who is insulin resistance to lose weight.
