Air bubbles in the syringe for insulin injections?

07 Jun

I’ve just started using insulin for diabetes. I have a pen that you screw the needle onto and “dial” the dosage. Everything I’ve read says to make sure you get the air bubbles out, but what would happen if you DO inject it, and there’s a bubble? I could see how it would be problematic if it was going right into a vein, but what would the danger be, injecting it into fatty tissue?

Does anyone make a U200 Insulin Syringe?

30 May

I’m diabetic and some of my insulin doses are larger than 100 units. The largest syringe I can find is only 1cc (100U). I haven’t been able to locate any larger. Anyone know of a supplier of a larger insulin syringe? I’m in the USA, but will order from anywhere if I have to.
To answer “Why so much?” – this is what the doctor has prescribed. Is this higher than normal? How much is normal? I don’t know anyone else that takes insulin to compare with.
Thank you for correcting my mistake about U200. I am indeed speaking of larger than 100 unit doses of U100 insulin. I didn’t know higher concentration insulin was available, I will speak with my doctor about that. For those that have said they have larger syringes, please provide a brand name or supplier.

Insulin Syringe Access in Panama?

10 Apr

I take insulin for my diabetes and will be traveling to Panama. I’d like to know the laws on both:

a) importing a limited supply of hypodermic needles for my own use for the length of my stay

and

b) should the need arise, what is required to purchase syringes at a farmacia (pharmacy) in Panama? (I already know I can get my insulin there)

It would be a small inconvenience for me to bring a prescription, as I live in Florida and my medication and diabetic supplies can be purchased over the counter.
