I’m looking for a blood glucose meter that doesn’t require a test strip. Can you recommend a manufacturer or model that doesn’t need to have a test trip?

Cat and his diabetes testing?

07 Jun

I learned today that my cat has diabetes. I was told to take his blood sugars in the ear. He hates it when I touch his ears and I cant get blood. His paws are easy again I was able to get a reading. Is it okay to check his blood glucose in his paws? Seems to work good for him and me.

Diabetes Testing Question?

05 Jun

I got a diabetes test done earler in the week and had the FPG test and the OGTT Test done. In the FPG test I got a reading of 116, and then after I drank that liquid which is the OGTT test I got a reading of 86. What does this mean? I know that since I am between 100-126 for the FPG test that says I am pre-diabetic, but for the OGTT test I am supposed to be between 140-199 to be considered a pre-diabetic. I am worried so can someone please help me. THANKS!!

How do you make diabetes testing less painful?

02 Jun

I’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Though… the cut-offs annoy me because using one scale I wouldn’t have been diagnosed with GD and the doctor didn’t give me good instructions that would have increased the blood sugar level AND they tested on the fingertips instead of taking blood from the arm that would also have increased the number, I’m willing to do home testing and monitor to make sure that even if it is just pre-diabetes it doesn’t become a problem.

The thing is… after today and having 4 fingers pricked, my fingers HURT. I’ll admit it, I’m scared to prick my fingers. Add into this the doctor saying he believes I’ll need insulin shots and I don’t think I can do it. Does anyone have any tricks to get through this?

Gestational Diabetes Testing?

31 May

Well I have been reading about this testing and I notice that the Side effects are not very pleasant. I heard that a lot of women tend to feel very hyper, shaky, nauseated, and may start vomiting.

Hold It! Vomiting may occur??? Nausea??? Ok yeah… I don’t think I can do this. Some people may have Diabetes in my family but that doesn’t mean it runs in my family. Well to me I guess. But I always had a fear of vomiting or even going near someone who even says they feel like throwing up. It scares me I don’t exactly know why, But do panic to a point that I will run away. In other words to make it short I have Emetophobia…

A lot of women say that they didn’t take the test, because of the same problem, not the phobia but the side effects they don’t want to go through. I know you are probably thinking if she has emetophobia how was she able to go through the first few months of pregnancy? well I’ll answer that before you ask, I never had the morning sickness throughout this entire pregnancy and I’m now 27 weeks.

Is the test really that Important? Do I really have to take it? I’m too scared to do it and I have 3 hours to decide whether to take the risk or not. Deep down I don’t want to.

Is testing type 2 Diabetics for Gestational Diabetes the same…?

28 May

Is testing Type 2 Diabetics (who are pregnant) for Gestational diabetes the same kind of testing as it would be for a normal woman who is pregnant? I’ve Had three kids already and was not diabetic when I was pregnant with them, before or after. And when they did the routine gestational diabetes testing they gave me a high concentration of sugar or better known as glucose. I have recently been told from my OB physician that he will still need to perform this test to see if I have developed the gestational kind. I wasn’t thinking at the time, but today I was watching a video that reminded me of what they do for this testing and I am now concerned about having to drink this high sugary drink. Does anyone know if the procedure is different for someone like myself? I have tried to google this info, but no luck and YES I will ask my doctor as soon as possible but it is the weekend so I need some peace of mind if that is possible.
In your wondering how far along I am…I am 13 weeks today, the beginning of my 2nd trimester. Just thought I’d share!:)
I found out I was Diabetic this last January and the cause could be a result from my PCOS that I was recently diagnosed with as well. I take medication for the combination and monitor my Diabetes 4 times a day. I also monitor my Ketones. Quite frankly I think I am the healthiest I have been in years. I too am confused why the Doctor still wants to check for Gestational Diabetes..but hey he is a doctor. I do also see an Endocribnologist. I guess I should ask him if it is nessecery for this procedure.

Diabetes testing help?

16 May

I’m so sorry for the trouble but I have one last questions of what some say to my “soon to be” diabetes. Tomorrow I am going to the doctor for testing, yes, for diabetes. I don’t know what to expect because they list many tests that I guess I will be doing. Examples like I think it is called a “C-peptide” test for my blood sugar. I am very scared, sorry but any help or encouragement is greatly appreciated!
