Are there diabetic supplies you can get for free or cheap?
I don’t have any sort of medical insurance right now. I did have medi-cal but I’m losing it at the end of this month because I had a miscarriage and don’t have any kids. I’m a type 2 diabetic planning on getting pregnant again, but they won’t allow me to stay on medi-cal. I’m trying to find ways to get my diabetic supplies free or very cheap as money is also an issue. Please no lecturing, just looking for some help. Thanks.

Is there a painless way to test blood in diabetes?
My nephew who’s only 9 months old developed Type 1 diabetes. My cousin checks his blood with glucometer using test strips, but because of the pain it causes the kid became very nervous and starts crying everytime his mom approaches him. I was wondering if anybody knows about alternative ways to test blood, that are not as painful and that are suitable for a kid his age. Thank you.
Is there a simple book for people with diabetes that suggests healthier food choices?
My 40-year-old brother has adult-onset diabetes. He is recently divorced and has never had to prepare his own meals before now. He doesn’t like to sit down and read, but wants to choose healthier foods. He’s looking for a simple book that will tell him don’t eat these foods, do eat these foods.
He doesn’t really cook, so an elaborate cookbook would not be appropriate. (He almost always eats with family and friends instead.)
Snacks are a problem though. For example, he doesn’t yet understand that although orange juice is healthy for many people, it’s high in sugar.
Any ideas are welcome. He took an all-day hospital diabetes/nutrition class, but found it overwhelming. He wants to eat better. He also has high blood pressure. He grew up eating unhealthy foods and never learned to eat well.

Are there any foods that you can eat to bring your blood sugar down?
I am a type 2 diabetic and have not been able to take my medication (Actos Plus) or buy any supplies because I am out of work. I’ve been getting headaches and feel that this might be caused by elevated blood sugar. Because of the holiday season, I’ve been eating things I shouldn’t (Cookies).
