I am really trying to control my diabetes without medication what can I do to maintain control

My father has type 2 diabetes and is going through dialysis because the diabetes has caused his kidneys to fail. I was wondering if exercise would be beneficial to his health. I’m worried that it might be too much of a physical exertion, especially since he is in a weak condition and is frequently tired. But I often hear about the benefits of exercise and the effect it plays in combatting diabetes. Would exercise help my father?

i am very active and have a decent weight but i have now a high blood sugar level (or pre-diabetes). is this due primarily to genetics? I have some native american in my background which i know is a high risk group.

why would my blood sugar go up to 194 after I ate some sweets and breads for lunch ,if I’m not a diabetic? It came down to 104 after about 5 hrs.

More to the point, what would a vegan do if diet could not control their diabetes?

could someone please explain what it is and the benefits of using it in diabetes treatment?

At this point I have major insurance by the county but it only last 6 months. I was diagnosed with Diabetes while on this insurance. To my knowledge, insurances companies have to cover you if you have previous insurance???? How would the preexisting condition affect this?

P.S. I am taking medication for the Diabetes 2.

Any idea how much insurance cost for individual.

Other than the Diabetes, I am healthy.

I do weight 254 but I am 6 4 with muscle.

let me start off by saying i’m 20, 21 in early march. my bf is 19, 20 in early feb. we’ve been together for 2 years, we will get married.

first incident – his mom randomly said you’re not living her. i dk where you’re living, but it won’t be here. i guess they got in a fight about his future. she wants him to do something, but he has no desire to be a flabotomist, cna, w/e. so he lived with me for 5 months. before she said if you don’t move in with your grandparents you’re basically not a part of this family anymore.

second incident – well it happened at his sister’s birthday party. he had been contemplating on not going back to school. he needs to stay in school for insurance. he’s diabetic with a pump. a pump is something that goes into your body to be able to give you insulin basically constantly. much better than shots, but supplies are expensive. without insurance, they would be rediculious and sky high. well he was in the other room. i was sitting on the couch, his grandma, grandpa, and mom were talking about it. his grandpa said well just let him die then. it took me about 5 seconds to stand up, go in the other room, and demand to leave. i don’t care, it’s not okay to say to just let him die. i understand them being frusterated… but it’s not really okay to say something like that. it made me very upset, and i started crying when we got in the car. how can family say something like that.

third – my uncle had a brain aneurysm. basically where a blood vessel pops in the brain, and blood starts filling up the brain. VERY serious, deadly. he was transported to a special hospital (2 hours from me), they said it was the worst case they had ever seen. when i found out we were at college, and i had to leave. we rode together, so he came with me. it was an emergency. so he didn’t get home till around 10 that night. of which since he was living with his grandparents his cerfew was 6. okay. so anyway the next day i really wanted him to go back with me. i needed him there for me. my family is his family, he also lost a family member. but they were against him going, they said it was pointless and he didn’t need to go. needless to say they let him go, “if you really think you have to go then do whatever you want.” so that night she stalked my mom. she called his mom to find out my last name. looked her up in the ph book, called her at home and b!tched her out for 30 minutes. among other things she said that he was going to be laying in his death bed next to my uncle and there was no reason for him to be there… my uncle was literally laying there with a brain for mush. the only part that was still working was the part keeping him alive (even though he was on life support)… and they were comparing my bf to my uncle. who was literally about to die. i cannot tell you how horrible that made me feel. i dk even know what else they said. but it was totally uncalled for and disrespectful. i still havn’t forgiven them. doubt i ever will.

fourth – he went to his mom’s to get some more of his stuff. like his clothes, xbox, ect… since he’s living with his grandparents right now. well his mom said if he walked out the door with his stuff he could never come back and could consider himself no longer a member of the family. she said he couldn’t even go to get diabetes supplies or insulin. if he had walked out that door it would have been commiting suicide. i’ve never seen him cry before, but his family made him ball like a baby.

it’s not even like we’re bad. we don’t drink, we don’t do drugs, we don’t party. we go to school to get our college degrees, and are hard working. i don’t get it. i can’t find a way to forgive them. do i have a right for feeling this way? how would you feel? they pride themselves on going to church every week, being christians, trying to force him to call off work to go to church, ect… very strict and conservative. but in my opinion horrible people. i used to absolutely LOVE his family. LOVE. but now i can’t stand them. the only one i even like is his 17 year old sister.
i just wanted to add that all of this has happened this year. and the thing with my uncle just happened less than a month ago. it really hurt my feelings. i told him i’m skipping all the family get togethers. i have already missed his grandpa’s birthday party… and i won’t be spending thanksgiving or christmas with them either. thanks for all the asnwers so far.
how would you know that we didn’t already go to church with his family? and i never said anything about christians being bad people. i’m talking about his family.

He died after having an insulin reaction in his sleep. I was out of town and no one was able to help him in time. He loved me very deeply and we had planned on getting married in May of 2010. It’s so hard to believe he’s gone and I hope he really isn’t. I miss him so much and don’t think I want much more life to live without him.

I get medicare. I see things on Television about medicare can pay diabetes supplies. But would it count for gestational diabetes in pregnant woman. I am pregnant. I am 29 weeks pregnant. I didn’t pass the 1 hour test. I went back to do the three hour test which I didn’t get finish of vomit of the drink. I go see the doctor this Thursday to talk about it. I don’t know if he go by the first one or should try the three hour test again. If they do go by the first one. What would I need for my medicare insurance to cover it. I do get my self tested for Diabetes once a year since both of my parents got it. I want to catch it sooner then finding out later in life. My dad had it since he was 16 year old. I have bipolar which my dad has. My mom has it found out 10 years ago. I do want to protect myself. If it would nice if my insurance pay for the gestational diabetes. They I would pay own pocket afterwards just to check my blood sugar. I know I would need to get used to. Thanks.. I am still new to this medicare.. I also get Medicaid but they no longer cover my medicine or anything. But it just pay the rest of the doctor bills that medicare doesn’t pay.
